Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Know Your Ride Technologies LLC (“Know Your Ride,” “we,” “us”) collects through knowyourride.net (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain English on purpose.

What We Collect

• Email address — when you create an account or subscribe to Pro. Used for sign-in, subscription management, and operational email.
• Password — stored only as a salted scrypt hash. We never see or store your plaintext password.
• Vehicle information — the year, make, and model of vehicles you add, the mileage you log, and any service-log entries you create. Please don’t put sensitive personal details in free-text notes.
• VINs you enter — sent to our decode endpoint to look up specs; not retained beyond what’s needed to answer, unless you save the vehicle.
• Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never touch our servers — we only receive a customer/subscription identifier and your subscription status.
• Usage analytics — if Google Analytics is enabled, aggregated, pseudonymous data such as pages viewed, browser, approximate location (country/region), and basic device info. We don’t link analytics to your account email.

How We Use It

• Run your account and Pro subscription (sign-in, billing, restoring access on a new device).
• Save and display your garage, mileage, and service log.
• Understand which features are used so we can improve the Service (aggregated only — we don’t profile individuals).
• Respond to your support requests.
• Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

Know Your Ride does not sell your personal information — not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. We also do not use your personal data to train third-party AI models, and we do not share your email, password hash, garage, or service log for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Third Parties We Share Data With

We use a small set of providers to operate the Service. Each handles only the limited data needed for its specific job, under its own privacy practices:

• Stripe — payment processing and subscription management.
• Amazon Associates — affiliate links to recommended parts. We send Amazon no personal data; if you click an affiliate link, Amazon may set its own cookies on its site. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
• NHTSA (U.S. Government) — recall, VIN-decode, and complaint data. Queried server-side; vehicle identifiers only, no account info.
• Upstash Redis (United States) — encrypted, U.S.-based storage for accounts, sessions, garage data, and service logs.
• Vercel — hosting and serverless functions.
• Google Analytics — aggregated, pseudonymous usage analytics (if enabled).
• Anthropic Claude API — powers repair guides and the part-image scanner. We don’t send your email or account identifiers.

Where Your Data Is Stored

Account data (email, password hash, saved vehicles, mileage, and service logs) is stored in a United States–based Upstash Redis instance, and the Service is hosted on Vercel. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.

We use a small number of cookies for sign-in, payments, and (if enabled) analytics. See our Cookie Policy for the full list and how to opt out.

Data Retention

We keep your account and garage data while your account is active. Session tokens auto-expire after 30 days. When you delete your account, we begin a 30-day grace period; after that, your personal data is permanently purged from our active stores, except limited records we must keep for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Your CCPA Rights (and Rights for All Users)

We honor these rights for all users. If you’re a California resident, they reflect your rights under the CCPA/CPRA:

• Right to know / access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Right to delete — ask us to delete your personal information, or delete your account yourself in the app.
• Right to opt out of sale — not applicable, because we do not sell or share your personal information. There is nothing to opt out of.
• Right to non-discrimination — we will never deny service or change pricing because you exercised a right.

To exercise a right, email hello@knowyourride.net from your account address. We respond within the timeframe the law requires (generally within 45 days) and may need to verify your identity first.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and Pro subscriptions require users to be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, scrypt-hashed passwords, short-lived session tokens, server-side validation of all writes, and least-privilege access to our data stores. No service can guarantee perfect security; please use a strong, unique password and tell us if you suspect compromise.

Governing Law

This Privacy Policy and any dispute relating to it are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email, and the effective date above will be updated.
